Shoppers and tourists passing through Liverpool ONE are greeted by a true giant of music. A 15ft statue of Queen legend Freddie Mercury has - with the help of a crane and a strong workforce - been installed in the centre of Paradise Street. Giant Freddie arrived in Liverpool to celebrate the hit Queen and Ben Elton musical We Will Rock You arriving at the city’s Empire Theatre in September.

For more than eight years a giant 15ft Freddie Mercury statue has been standing in front of the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End. The 680kg statue has become a London landmark and an important part of the We Will Rock You production, with thousands of fans and tourists flocking to the Dominion to see the statue.

The Empire Theatre’s canopy cannot house the statue as it is simply too big and heavy, so after an appeal to ‘find Freddie a home’, various city organisations stepped in to help, with Liverpool ONE eventually being chosen as his temporary home.
