HMD Pink & Black Triangle Wreath Laying Ceremony
11am Saturday 29th January 2011
Peace Memorial, St Johns Gardens, Liverpool 1
Pink & black triangle wreaths will be laid at a special ceremony in remembrance of all homosexuals & the transgender community who were persecuted by the Nazis during the Holocaust.
The event is part of a series of events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations (27th Jan 2010) and has been timed to coincide with the eve of LGBT history month and a youth hate crime conference to be held in Liverpool in February.
The wreaths will be laid by the Lord Mayor Of Liverpool, civic leaders and representatives from Homotopia, young people from Armistead & GYRO (Gay Youth R Out), Merseyside Police, Liverpool Youth Service & Mersey Fire & Rescue Service. A two minute silence will follow the wreath laying.
The event has been coordinated and presented by Homotopia and forms a key part of ongoing community outreach work and the anti-hate education initiative Project Triangle in which 12 young LGBT people travelled to Auschwitz-Birkenau and Warsaw in September 2009.
This event is open to anyone who wishes to attend
