Stanley Street consultation

Liverpool’s Stanley Street and surrounding area is being looked at to promote the gay quarter as an international attraction.

A council-funded consultation is under way to collect views on how the area can be marketed to compete with other cities' successful gay districts.

The consultation will be undertaken by Urban planner Feria Urbanism, who will be speaking to gay and non gay business owners in the area to look at how the gay quarter can be promoted inside and outside the city. Richard Estham of Feria Urbanism told Seen Magazine: “We are really excited about looking at Liverpool’s Stanley Street area in more detail and looking at how the area can be better promoted and designed not only in the evening but also daytime.

“We will be holding one-to-one consultations with business owners who have opinions on this as well as workshops.”

Liverpool Labour Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Employment and Skills added: “We have been working on this proposal idea for a while. After a recent council report on the city centre, there were points raised about the gay quarter an improvements to an already vibrant area. “When we have spoken about looking into promoting and developing the gay quarter and economy, we have had unanimous support form the GLBT community.”
