D Day meeting for Stanley Street businesses

MAIN PRIDE PIC

Tomorrow (Tuesday July 5) is D- Day for Stanley Street bars and clubs’ application to close the road to complement this year’s Liverpool Pride Festival on August 6.

The main event was recently moved to the Pier Head due to funding issues. Can we do it?? “All the indications are good!” says Cllr Steve Radford who will be the event coordinator for the planned Stanley Street event.

At today’s meeting held at Superstar Boudoir, pub and club owners from the Stanley Street and surrounding areas came together showing a united front to complement Liverpool’s Pride with a planned street closure so they can have a street party to add to the Pier Head event and provide an even more positive message from the city’s LGBT community.

The application deadline is tomorrow with the money coming from; Superstar Boudoir, The Lisbon, Reform, Navy Bar, Pink, Heaven and Secrets.

These all pledged to have cheques in to Steve Radford by tomorrow morning allowing him to submit the application.

Secrets bar, as well as paying their contribution has agreed to help with security for the event.

Delifinseca and the Bier Keller at the top of Stanley Street had been invited to the meeting and were aware it was deadline day but did not attend. Cllr Radford of the Liberal Party asked everybody to recognise the help given by the Pride committee with, amongst other things, free training of volunteers and The Armistead centre for volunteering the use of their premises as a control centre despite both being hit by funding issues.

The Liverpool Pride and Stanley Street representatives will come together on July 13 at Liverpool Town Hall to jointly communicate with all parties involved to ensure a seamless and safe Pride festival 2011.

Paul Wong manager of Reform bar commented: “Its great to finally see everybody cooperating to make this event even better that last year’s.”
