Martini Lounge - Review

The Bears (* NEW *)

If you went down to the St George’s Hall at the weekend you were sure for a big surprise!

As the lights went down, excitement mounted at the Martini Lounge’s latest production in the fabulous city centre location. The event compromised of a variety of showgirls giving sexy solo burlesque performances.

Each lovely lady used trademark routines. The intimate show room gave a sultry feel to the performances – almost like a PG 13 speakeasy.

Fred (of male burlesque group The Bears) hosted the event, warming the crowd up using brilliant puns and slight embarrassment with a lot of laughs on the side.

Headline act, Liverpool’s Millie Dollar gave a wonderful performance. Although much more petit than the average burlesque dancer, she had a sparkle in her eye and captivated the audience.

Miss Beeby Rose, a dark haired Dutch beauty, gave a stunning act, teasing the crowd with layers of masques; she brought true creativity to her dance routine. UK Burlesque Star Beau Rocks brought a new meaning to the term Merry Christmas by entering the stage in a Christmas Tree costume in her first act, then for her second act had everyone in the room blushing with a very sexy strip – but no tease. This lady went all the way, leaving nothing to the imagination before popping a bottle of bubbly to celebrate. She ensured all the straight gents needed a good few minutes to steady their nerves before standing up.

I take my hat off to the Gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh; usually a trio, these ladies were one member down on the night, so the two who were on stage pulled off a fantastic performance. They seamlessly showed off their stunning arrangements of Christmas songs old and new acapella style.

The main pull for me though, was the fabulous Bears, who made a very special appearance from London. These big, gruff and sexy 100% natural, no gym membership men were everything the audience could handle. With tongue in cheek performances and special strip routines to old favorites like Singing in The Rain and their own anthem Bear Necessities, I almost wanted to get up and join in myself!

With fun costumes, and more stage presence than Madonna herself, these guys had the entire venue singing, clapping and, one by one, falling in love with them.

In all this is a fantastic night for everyone – with the ladies, glitter, bears and bubbly, what more could you want from a night at the theatre?
