There have been two separate incidences where two drag queens have been attacked in or near Liverpool’s gay quarter. This has called for increased safety and security around the quarter.
Well known drag artist and street entertainer Lady Shaun is recovering from a broken jaw after she was knocked out after being punched in the face early hours of Friday morning. The attack happened close to the gay quarter in Dale Street.
She has been on the gay scene for around 30 years and said “never in a million years did I think this could happen to me and now it has”
The G-bar DJ also said “people need to change their attitude towards gay people, we need to keep our streets safe for everybody I see myself as a gay ambassador to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and transsexual people and I want them to know that we shouldn’t be ashamed to stand up for ourselves.”
The attacker was chased but unfortunately the police failed to catch him. Despite this Lady Shaun still said “The police where great with me afterwards” and she loves the fact that there are police in the area although it did happen outside of the gay quarter where there was no one around.
Two weeks prior to this Calvin Fox was another victim of an attack. He was set up on by two people on his way home after a night out in the gay quarter. The 21 year old choreographer was pushed to the ground from behind suffering bruising and cuts to the face. He is now calling for more security on the streets.
Calvin said “I thought after last years Liverpool pride, an amazing event that had no trouble reported I thought Liverpool had woken up and accepted the term ‘gay’.
